The works are described in brief records including the following information : · Manuscripts : authors and titles of texts, date and number of leaves · Printed books : author, title, secondary authors, publication place, printer and/or publisher, publication date, format. One or more bibliographic references between parentheses may appear at the end of each record. Generally speaking, for a more complete description of the documents, refer to the catalogue général des imprimés or to the catalogue des manuscrits (Calames). When one binding gathers together several distinct bibliographical units, each of them (limited to 10) is described. Example 4° V 341 INV 1030 RES. Bookbindings
Data related to the copy and the binding include the following :
Provenance : ownership marks or signs of use are listed, and as far as possible, identified and dated. Decorative technique / Motifs : Ornament, Roll or Panel. For each type, there is an iconographic description; signatures, monograms, and dates are mentioned; dimensions are cited only for panels. Origin of the binding : country, region or town; when a bookbinder is identified, his name appears between parentheses after the name of the town. Technique : dimensions, indication of interventions or restoration posterior to the binding, cover material, technical description (boards, spine, presence or signs of attachments or clasps, headbands, edge ornamentation). Related bindings and bibliography : localization of bindings made with the same or similar tools; abridged bibliographical references (see explanation in Bibliography). Image : rubbings and/or photographic reproductions of the bookbinding (from 1 to 4 images). Example
